"Langdon St. Ives: The Steampunk Musical": Creative writing director John Blaylock and collaborator Josh Freilich discuss musical theater writing and collaboration while sharing songs from their current project, and adaptation of the Victorian scientist-sleuth's several steampunk adventures.

Immersive Dramatic Reading: Acting, Integrated Arts, Musical Theatre and Creative Writing conservatory students bring the award-winning books of the festival honorees to life in an immersive steampunk reading. Sponsored by the Malo Family. 

This event will take place at 7 p.m. Orange County School of the Arts' Symphony Hall and is free to attend.  

“The Ark of Space” Spoken Word featuring OCSA graduate and singer-songwriter Nightjars: Chapman University’s Hilbert Museum hosts creative writing students, alumni, and faculty in a spoken word performance weaving ideas of our grand, illuminative universe, backed by a video installation by Digital Media Conservatory students. Sponsored by The Miles Family.

This event takes place at 6 p.m. and is free to the public

Feb. 12 

“Alternative Earths” Dance Collaboration: Traverse strange atmospheres, radical topographies, and fluctuating gravities with Classical & Contemporary Dance and Commercial Dance Conservatory students. The dancers bring to life the other worlds of creative writing students, voiced to Popular Music's arrangements.

This performance will take place at Orange County School of the Arts at 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the box office.

Speaker: William Ashbless: This incredible, illusive fictional poet created by Tim Powers and James Blaylock visits students at California School of the Arts – San Gabriel Valley (CSArts-SGV). The character has taken on a cult following.

Speaker: John Berlyne: A UK-based editor and an expert on Tim Powers' works.

Speakers: Nicole Smetana (“The Midnights”), Kristen-Paige Madonia (“Invisible Fault Lines”), Garrett Calcaterra (“Dreamwielder”): These notable authors will visit OCSA for a discussion. This event is closed to the public.

Speaker: Lewis Shiner: This author is best known for his science fiction and cyberpunk novels including "Frontera," "Glimpses," "Outside the Gates of Eden," and many others.

Master Artist: Karen Joy Fowler: PEN/Faulkner award-winning author Karen Joy Fowler (“The Jane Austen Book Club”) visits Creative Writing Conservatory students to discuss her career as a popular novelist.

This master class will take place at Orange County School of the Arts and is closed to the public.

“After the Fall” Play Festival: Delve into dystopian futures with Acting, Creative Writing, and Production & Design students and faculty one-act plays, featuring the imaginative talents of OCSA’s Puppet Making class. This event takes place at OCSA's Symphony Hall at 7 p.m. on Feb 20-22 and 2 p.m. on Feb. 22. Tickets are available online at the OCSA box office. 

"Circle of Slumber" Immersive Dance Narrative: Chase the characters and take part in the plot as portions of CSArts-SGV metamorphose into a Steampunk Otherworld, collaboratively created and populated by students in Creative Writing, Production & Design, and the School of Dance.

OCSA Musical Theatre presents “Peter & The Starcatcher”: This Tony Award-winning musical is an inventive Peter Pan origin story. This performance will take place at OCSA's Webb Theatre at 7 p.m. on Feb. 27-29 and 2 p.m. on Feb. 29. Tickets are available online at the box office.

"The Automaton Girl - The Lost Heart” Classical Voice Show: An airship romance airship between a robotic girl and a human boy is the original Creative Writing Conservatory backdrop for this Classical Voice Conservatory performance.

“Factory Fables” Instrumental Music Show: In a synthesis of music and spoken word, Instrumental Music performers provide musical depth to the steampunk fictions of creative writing students.

Writing Contest: Creative Writing students from OCSA and CSArts-SGV will submit their work for a writing contest, which will be judged by Blaylock and Powers. Winners will be announced at the Finale.

Grand Finale & Birthday Bash! Help pass the torch to OCSA’s regional campus with an electrifying performance by The Magic Asian Man, Creative Writing alumnus Naathan Phan, who has appeared on “Penn & Teller’s Don’t Blink,” “America’s Got Talent,” and “Masters of Illusion.” Included will be reprise festival performances and the announcement of winners in the student writing contest and scavenger hunt, all wrapped in a birthday celebration for festival honoree and Leap Year Baby Tim Powers who turns “17.”

The event's grand finale will take place at California School of the Arts – San Gabriel Valley at 7 p.m. 

Book Art Gallery: Visit Steampunk Central as digital media, production & design, and visual arts students transform OCSA's Symphony Hall with reimagined book covers and galactic costumes.
